National Hurricane Center (NHC) forecasters said Invest 94L remained over the central tropical Atlantic and was a widespread low-pressure area that had produced disorganized rainfall and thunderstorms.

The NHC said Invest 94L is expected to move generally west to west-northwest and environmental conditions appear to be only marginally conducive to gradual development towards the end of the week.

At this point, the system could develop into a tropical depression as it approaches the Leeward Islands and Virgin Islands later this week, according to the NHC.

On Thursday, a Hurricane Hunter aircraft will take off from St. Croix in the United States Virgin Islands (USVI) to get a better look at Invest 94L.

If you're planning to travel to popular warm-weather destinations like Puerto Rico or the USVI, you'll want to keep an eye on the weather forecast.

The NHC gives the system a low chance of developing over the next two days and a medium chance of developing over the next week.

The NHC said shower and thunderstorm activity continues in the southwest Caribbean Sea and is associated with an extensive low pressure area.

The system could develop gradually if it remains over the water as it slowly moves northwest toward Central America.

The NHC said that regardless of developments, locally heavy rain was possible in parts of Central America later this week. The likelihood of the system evolving in the next week is slim.
