play

It's all about surviving and advancing in the Iowa high school football playoffs.

The playoff pairings for Classes 2A, 1A, A and 8-player were released Saturday morning. In each class, 32 teams punched their ticket to the playoffs. Classes 2A, 1A and A feature district champions, runners-up, third-place and fourth-place teams, respectively. In round one, a fourth-place team will face a district champion and a third-place team will face a second-place team. In the 8-player mode, the district champion, the second-place team, the third-place team and two other teams qualify.

In each class, 16 competitions will be held in the first round. The 16 remaining schools will then be divided into four groups of four for the second round and quarterfinals. The playoff pairings for Classes 3A, 4A and 5A will be released next week after the conclusion of the regular season.

Here are the first round matchups for each class.
