Jason Segel's friendly compliment moves Hoda Kotb to tears

Jason Segel's heartfelt words touched me Today Host Hoda Kotb broke down in tears after her big announcement last month.

The How I met your mother star, 44, who appeared for an interview with Kotb to promote his new series, shrinkage Season 2, said kind words to honor the morning show host's long career.

“I’ll miss you when you’re gone,” Segel told Kotb, referring to their farewell NBC News Morning show after 17 years.

“I just want you to know that these interviews are some of the best of my entire career, so I'm really grateful to know you,” he added.

Overwhelmed with emotion, the teary-eyed presenter replied, “Wow, thank you,” and stood up to give the actor a warm hug.

Kotb's co-host Savannah Guthrie then took over. “What’s happening over there? Wait, go back to the hug. There’s a big hug going on over there,” Guthrie said to the camera.

In a lighthearted moment, Guthrie hugged her next guest, Eddie Redmayne, and quipped, “Look, take that with Hoda and Jason.”

The broadcast journalist announced on September 26th that she was leaving the station after 17 years as a presenter and 25 years of work.

The host said that while it was “painful” for her to leave, she knew she was making “the right decision.” She decided to take this big step to spend more time with her daughters, saying, “They deserve a bigger piece of my time.”

Kotb had also previously spoken People magazine that she wanted her time to be “filled with more of the same.”
