Jon Rahm withdraws from LIV Golf's Team Championship | Golf news and tour information

Jon Rahm has withdrawn from the LIV Golf team championship.

Ahead of the season finale at Maridoe Golf Club outside Dallas this weekend, LIV issued a statement saying the two-time major champion had withdrawn from his event due to flu-like symptoms. LIV substitute John Catlin will compete in his place.

Rahm was LIV's most important signing in season three. He reportedly moved to the Saudi-backed club for more than $300 million after years of insisting he had no interest in LIV. He runs his own club called “Legion XIII,” which finished second in the league's regular season.

The WD is the latest episode in a season of ups and downs for Rahm. He struggled at the Masters, missed the cut at the PGA Championship and withdrew from the US Open with a toe infection. Rahm rebounded with a top-10 finish at the Open and was in contention for a gold medal at the Paris Olympics before faltering in the home stretch and missing the podium. In contrast, Rahm won twice against the 52-player LIV fields in 2024 and last week took the league's individual title – and an $18 million bonus payment.

Although he is prohibited from competing on the PGA Tour, Rahm has retained his DP World Tour membership, primarily to continue to have a chance to play for Europe in the Ryder Cup. Rahm has amassed a number of fines and suspensions for competing in LIV events rather than DP World Tour events. Rahm has been vocal that he will not pay the fines and has appealed all sanctions, allowing him to continue competing in DP World Tour events and retain his membership, a requirement for participation in the Ryder Cup. Rahm has registered to compete in the Spanish Open next week. There are no dates yet for the appeal to be heard or decided.

LIV will be paying out $50 million for its team championship this weekend. Rahm's team entered the event as the #2 seed, and although Rahm missed the semifinals in Maridoe on Saturday, Legion XIII made it to the finals on Sunday. The winning team on Sunday will receive $14 million.
