Julie Chrisley sentenced to 7 years in prison for bank fraud

Chrisley Knows Best star Julie Chrisley must continue serving her seven-year prison sentence for tax evasion and bank fraud, a federal judge ordered.

The 51-year-old former reality star appeared in federal court in Atlanta for a sentencing hearing on Wednesday morning, three months after the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals found that the lower court had incorrectly calculated Chrisley's prison sentence because there was no evidence of her full involvement in the bank fraud for which she and her husband, Todd Chrisley, were convicted.

According to a court filing obtained by USA TODAY, U.S. District Judge Eleanor L. Ross affirmed her 2022 ruling and “provided reasons for the sentence imposed” during the 50-minute hearing. Chrisley was sentenced to 84 months in prison, five years of probation and ordered to pay more than $4.7 million – the total amount prosecutors say she illegally acquired – in restitution.

According to the Associated Press, a lawyer for the Chrisleys had requested a reduced sentence for the matriarch of the Chrisley family. Meanwhile, US attorneys argued that Julie Chrisley was a “central part” of the fraud scheme.

“I apologize for my actions and what led me to where I am today,” Chrisley said, according to AP.

She added that her incarceration was “the most difficult time of my life.” “I can never repay my children for what they had to go through and I am so sorry,” she said, according to People magazine.

The judge reportedly explained that her 2022 sentence already represents a reduced sentence for Chrisley's crimes and less than what prosecutors had sought for the former reality star. Chrisley's children, Savannah Chrisley, 27, and Chase Chrisley, 28, were present at the hearing, according to AP and People.

According to Ross's amended forfeiture order filed Wednesday and reviewed by USA TODAY, Todd Chrisley was found to have “received proceeds totaling $17,270,741.57 from the commission of the offense for which he was convicted,” and he was ordered to forfeit that amount to the state.

Julie Chrisley is back in the custody of the US Marshals Service.

USA TODAY has reached out to a representative for the Chrisleys for comment.

Todd, 56, and Julie Chrisley, who portrayed themselves as Southern real estate magnates on their USA Network shows, are both serving prison sentences after a jury found them guilty in June 2022 of conspiracy to defraud Atlanta community banks of more than $36 million in fraudulent loans, defrauding the IRS and tax evasion.

Julie Chrisley was additionally convicted of obstruction of justice and wire fraud.

Five months later, Todd Chrisley was sentenced to 12 years in prison, while Julie Chrisley received a seven-year sentence. They began their respective sentences in January 2023.

A Sept. 25 USA TODAY records search shows that Todd Chrisley, 56, is scheduled to be released from FPC Pensacola in Florida in July 2032. Julie's release from FMC Lexington in Kentucky was scheduled for April 2028 before her resentencing.

“Chrisley Knows Best” ran for ten seasons on the USA Network from 2014 to 2023. “Growing Up Chrisley,” a spin-off featuring the couple’s adult children, Chase and Savannah Chrisley, ran for four more seasons after its premiere in 2019.
