Kansas State Football vs. West Virginia: Live Score Updates

The Kansas State football team has a chance to build on last week's road success and compete with Big 12 leaders Brigham Young, Iowa State and Texas Tech with a trip to the Eastern Time Zone on Saturday.

The 17th-ranked Wildcats (5-1, 2-1 Big 12) travel to Morgantown to face West Virginia (3-3, 2-1) in a nationally televised night game at Milan Puskar Stadium after they won late against Colorado last week, 31-28.

Should they prevail against West Virginia, which suffered its first conference loss last week at home to Iowa (28-16), it would give the Wildcats back-to-back road wins for the first time since 2022.

K-State running back DJ Giddens leads the Big 12 in rushing with 786 yards, while West Virginia split its yards among three backs – running back Jahiem White (398), quarterback Garrett Greene (382) and running back CJ Donaldson (378). Wildcat quarterback Avery Johnson has completed 61.7% of his passes for 1,103 yards and 11 touchdowns, while Greene has thrown 1,267 and eight scores with 57.3% accuracy.

After DJ Giddens was stoned twice at the 1, Avery Johnson found diving tight end Will Anxiaux for a 1-yard touchdown to give K-State a 31-10 lead with 4:48 left in the third quarter.

While Giddens didn't get going in the running game, his 53-yard reception from Johnson made the score 1-1. The drive went seven plays for 69 yards and took 3:17. Johnson is now 17 of 22 passing for a career-high 271 yards and three touchdowns.

West Virginia quarterback Garrett Greene, shaken up in the first half, didn't start the third quarter for the Mountaineers and had to give way to Nicco Marchiol. The Mountaineers make a three-and-out and a punt.

K-State took over the offense in the second half and went 74 yards in 11 plays to take a 24-10 lead on a 16-yard dart from Avery Johnson to tight end Garrett Oakley at the top of the end zone.

The ride took 5 minutes and 17 seconds according to the clock.

Not a typical first half and K-State took a 17-10 lead into the locker room.

West Virginia limited K-State's powerful rushing attack to 9 yards on eight carries in the first half, while holding DJ Giddens to 9 yards on six attempts. But quarterback Avery Johnson is 8 of 11 for 144 yards, including a 60-yard touchdown strike to Jadon Jackson.

West Virginia had 145 yards on the ground in the half and 230 total yards, 153 for K-State. The Wildcats allowed just 71 yards per game on the ground.

The difference so far is Marques Sigle's 43-yard interception return touchdown, and K-State also managed a fourth-down stop inside the 5-yard line in the final minute of the half.

After stopping West Virginia on fourth down, K-State took a knee to take the lead into halftime.

West Virginia went 70 yards in 13 plays and took 6:29 seconds to get within 17-10 with a 7-yard Garrett Greene-to-Hudson Clement touchdown pass with 6:38 left in the period Halftime.

It's the second interception for K-State, leading to 10 points, and the Wildcats lead 17-3 with 13:14 remaining in the half.

Avery Johnson hit Jadon Jackson twice, for 24 yards and then 60 yards for the score, to give K-State a 10-3 lead with 21 seconds left in the quarter.

The drive took just 26 seconds and two plays to travel 84 yards.

West Virginia answered Kansas State's field goal with one of its own when Michael Hayes blasted one through from 44 yards – the same distance as the Wildcats – to tie the game 3-3 with 52 seconds left in the first quarter.

The scoring drive was six plays, 49 yards, 2:11.

K-State's drive stalled at West Virginia's 26-yard line, but Chris Tennant managed to sneak his 44-yard field goal attempt into the right upright and give the Wildcats the advantage with 3:03 left in the period to give us a 3-0 lead in the first quarter.

The Wildcats' drive, following an interception by Jack Fabris, covered 37 yards in 10 plays and lasted 5:16 minutes.

The Wildcats took over at their 37-yard line with 8:19 left in the first quarter.

Kansas State's defense holds up early in the game, but the Wildcats come up a yard short on their first possession and are forced to punt.

West Virginia had good field position after a short punt and took over at the 32-yard line with 10:43 left in the first quarter.

West Virginia wins the coin toss and gets the ball early in the game, meaning K-State gets it early in the second half.

The weather shouldn't be a problem this evening, with a game time temperature of 63 degrees with clear skies and no wind. The temperature should drop to around 50°C by the end of the game.

According to a report from the Kansas State Radio Network, K-State starting right offensive tackle Carver Willis did not make the trip to Morgantown and will not play tonight. Junior Andrew Länging, who plays primarily as a backup right and left defender, is likely to take Willis' place, and sophomore John Pastore is also expected to play.

Tight end Brayden Loftin still hasn't recovered from a leg injury that sidelined him the last two games.
