LeBron James: 'Surreal' to play with Bronny in Lakers' NBA preseason game against Suns | News, results, highlights, statistics and rumors

B/R

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James called it “surreal” appearing alongside Bronny in Sunday's 118-114 loss to the Phoenix Suns.

LeBron and Bronny played 16 and 13 minutes, respectively, becoming the first father and son to play in an NBA game together.

WOW, THAT WAS SURREAL!! 🥺🥺🥺🙌🏾🙌🏾

The historic moment came at the start of the second quarter.

“It means everything to a father,” LeBron said after the game, according to ESPN Ramona Shelburne. “For someone who didn’t have that as a child to have that influence on his children and his son. Being able to spend moments with his son. And ultimately being able to work with your son.” I think that's one of the greatest things a father could ever hope for or wish for.

LeBron scored a team-high 19 points and had five rebounds, four assists and two blocks in the loss. Bronny came off the bench and had two rebounds. He missed his single shot attempt.

It remains to be seen how much more the Jameses will be offered the opportunity to compete together in the same game.

The Lakers gave Bronny a relatively large contract for his draft position (55th overall), so they appear to be interested in his long-term development. In the short term, however, they have their sights firmly set on the championship, so head coach JJ Redick won't be giving a young prospect much playing time.

Adrian Wojnarowski, formerly of ESPN, reported in July that Bronny could spend most of his rookie season with the South Bay Lakers of the NBA G League. That's not an uncommon path for a second-round pick, especially one selected in the later stages of the draft.

Regardless of what happens in the future, Sunday night was at least a dream come true for LeBron.
