Lecture summaries from the Sunday afternoon session in October 2024

At the conclusion of the October 2024 general conference, President Russell M. Nelson encouraged Latter-day Saints to “rededicate their lives to Jesus Christ” and prepare for his Second Coming through regular temple attendance.

“Here is my promise to you: Anyone who sincerely seeks Jesus Christ will find him in the temple,” he said. “You will feel his mercy. You will find answers to your most difficult questions. You will better understand the joy of his gospel.”

Emphasizing the role of temples in preparing the Saints for the world, President Nelson noted the Church's “unprecedented pace” in temple construction, announced 17 new temple sites, and said renovations to the Salt Lake Temple and Temple Square would be completed by the end of 2026.

Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles presided over the session in the crowded conference center, which drew nearly 100,000 people in crowded locations and around the Temple Square grounds.

Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles encouraged the audience to strengthen their faith and commitment to Jesus Christ. “Faith is strong when it has deep roots in personal experience and personal commitment to Jesus Christ, regardless of what our traditions are or what others say or do,” he said.

Elder Ronald A. Rasband of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles spoke about the importance of supporting the prophet President Nelson by following his counsel and teaching his words. “We all need to be lifted up by the Lord with peace, comfort and, above all, personal revelation to confront the fear, darkness and strife that surrounds the world,” he taught.

Elder Quentin L. Cook of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles testified of the power of the scriptures in building faith. “Combined with the teachings of living prophets, these scriptures provide doctrinal guidance for us in today’s world. These scriptures are most effective when they provide guidance, correction, comfort, and comfort to individuals and families seeking guidance from the Lord.”

Other speakers at the Sunday afternoon session included Elder Takashi Wada, Elder Rubén V. Alliaud and Elder I. Raymond Egbo, all General Authority Seventy.

Elder Ahmad S. Corbitt, General Authority Seventy, and Sister Tamara W. Runia, first counselor in the Young Women general presidency, led the prayers.

The Temple Square Tabernacle Choir, led by Mack Wilberg and Ryan Murphy and Brian Mathias and Andrew Unsworth on organ, provided the music for the session. Choir selections included “Think a Sacred Song” (No. 1006), the conference’s eighth song from the church’s new global hymnal, “Hymns – For Home and Church.”
