Letters: Shohei Ohtani reaches a new level of greatness

Earlier this summer, Shohei Ohtani became only the sixth player in baseball history to hit 40 home runs and 40 stolen bases in a single season. Now Ohtani has founded the 50-50 club. One big difference: Ohtani will be the only member ever!

Results of the Shohei Ohtani poll

Just when you think you've seen it all, Shohei Ohtani surprises us all! Ohtani still has time to build on his legendary success this season. His preparation for the game proves that goals are no fluke.

And I thought the whole time that Roy Hobbs was the outdoorsman.

Shohei Ohtani had the best game of my life (6 for 6, three home runs, two doubles, two steals and 10 RBIs). Period. Plain and simple. The scary thing is that if he had slipped under a tag at third base (and finished the game on the cycle), it probably would have been the best game in all of sports ever. Still, his accomplishments will mean nothing if the Dodgers don't win the World Series. Since this will be his first MLB postseason, he has a chance to finish a season that will go down as perhaps the best ever.

With Dodgers pitchers seemingly suffering a setback at least once a week, the prospect of Shohei Ohtani pitching in a limited capacity in the postseason becomes more and more enticing. Assuming the Dodgers wouldn't pitch Ohtani unless he was medically cleared, Ohtani's pitching against Aaron Judge in the World Series could be even more exciting than Bob Welch's strikeout of Reggie Jackson in Game 2 of the 1978 Fall Classic.
