Liam Payne, former One Direction singer, dies aged 31 after hotel fall: reports

Former One Direction singer Liam Payne has died in Argentina, according to multiple reports.

La Nación, a national newspaper in Argentina, was first to report the news, claiming that the 31-year-old British singer fell from the third floor of a Buenos Aires hotel where he was staying. ABC News confirmed the report, citing local police. Yahoo Entertainment has reached out to a representative for Payne for comment.

The Associated Press reports that Alberto Crescenti, head of the state's emergency medical system, told a local news agency that Payne was found dead in the courtyard of the Casa Sur Hotel. Officials have not confirmed whether he fell or jumped. TMZ claims multiple witnesses witnessed the incident.

Payne was photographed supporting former bandmate Niall Horan at his show in Argentina on October 2nd. In recent days, videos have emerged showing Payne still in the country.

In 2010, Payne achieved superstar status in the UK The X Factor when he became a member of the boy band One Direction. The band also included Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and Horan. The band split up in 2015.

Payne has one child, a 7-year-old son, with singer Cheryl Cole.
