Lisa Marie Presley 'locked' Danny Keough into marriage after pregnancy: memoir

  • Lisa Marie Presley said in her posthumous memoir that having an abortion was the “stupidest thing” she did.
  • Presley was devastated afterwards and planned to get pregnant again with her then-boyfriend Danny Keough.
  • She became pregnant and married Keough in October 1988.

In her posthumous memoir, Lisa Marie Presley described the calculated steps she took to become pregnant by Danny Keough after regretting a previous abortion.

Presley, who died in 2023 at age 54, wrote about their relationship in “From Here to the Great Unknown,” released Tuesday. It was co-written by her and Keough's daughter. Riley Keough.

Presley met Danny when she was 17 and he was 21. He was the bassist in a band called D'bat and Presley recalled being attracted to his cockiness and confidence.

They initially dated for four months and during that time Presley had an ectopic pregnancy, which she thought was a ruptured appendix. The couple split up and Presley said she became “stuck and obsessed” with him afterward.

“I didn’t know what I wanted except that I wanted to be with Danny,” Presley said. “And I knew that I needed Also having kids with Danny, which is the weirdest and craziest thing about it. I felt like I was meant to have kids with him – I knew somehow that we would always be connected, that it would always be okay, that it would never be a bad situation for a child.

Presley and Danny got back together and at 19 she became pregnant again. However, they decided not to have the child and she regretted it.

“The second time I didn’t know what to do and Danny didn’t know either,” she said. “I ended up having an abortion. And it was the stupidest thing I've ever done in my life. I was devastated. I did it and we both cried. We were both destroyed and not long after we fell apart and broke.” I couldn't live with myself.

Presley said she was so upset with herself over the abortion that she “made a plan” to get pregnant again.

“I planned and planned and planned,” she wrote.

Presley said she purposely arranged a trip to see Danny, who was on a cruise ship with his band. They spent a night together in Aruba without Danny knowing of their intentions.

“Danny had no idea about my plan,” Presley said. “But I didn’t really care what he thought about it anymore. I didn't care if he wanted to be there or not. I felt like I had to make it up to you because I still couldn't believe I had an abortion.”

Two weeks later she took a pregnancy test and told Danny it was positive.

“Danny knew he had to marry me,” Presley said. “I set a trap for him. I didn’t really want to, but I did it.”

For her part, Riley said in the memoir that Presley “absolutely “I wanted to trap my father.” She said her father “was in shock because he never planned to get married or have children.”

Presley and Danny married in October 1988 and had their first child, daughter Riley, in May 1989. The couple had a second child together, a son named Benjamin Keough, and divorced in 1994.

In her memoir, Presley said that motherhood gave her meaning.

“I love being a mother,” she said. “I realized I was called to care about something else. Being a mother meant everything to me and Riley was the most precious jewel.”

Lisa Marie's insightful book has been in the works for several years. Back in 2019, Page Six reported that Lisa Marie's book deal was valued at an estimated $3 million to $4 million.

Despite being published just days ago, the memoir is already a bestseller on Amazon and Oprah Winfrey's latest pick for her book club.
