Listen to Hans Zimmer's Dragon Age: The Veilguard soundtrack

Hans Zimmer dropped the hottest single of the fall (in certain very small circles) by revealing the main theme of Dragon Age: The Veil Guardian yesterday on his official YouTube channel. And today, the track is available to stream on “all major music services,” according to a press release from BioWare, which confirms that Zimmer composed the entire piece Veil Guardians soundtrack featuring frequent collaborator Lorne Balfe.

The main theme itself is driving, menacing and repetitive (you could imagine it being menu music). But as the featured track shows, its melody is flexible enough to remain clear even with changes in instrumentation and major and minor keys – a must for touching the player's heart at crucial moments. It's not that First Piece by Zimmer and Balfe Veil Guardian However, work is underway to reach out to the public.

That honor would go to a spooky track hidden within Dragon Age selections from the video game soundtracka four-record box containing music from the Dragon Age games that BioWare released last May. Hidden at the end of a CD with music composed for DLC Dragon Age: Origins And Dragon Age: Inquisition is “D'read Koda,” a fast-paced, atmospheric soundscape credited to Zimmer and Balfe. D'read Koda possibly means something in one of Dragon Age's various fantasy languages, but could just as easily be a pun on “Dreadwolf” (the name). Veil Guardian (which was going on at the time) and “Coda” (the musical term for essentially the part at the end).

According to BioWare's press release, fans can pre-order the official title Veil Guardian Soundtrack from October 18th on iTunes and Amazon Music. The album will be released on November 1st, one day after the release of Dragon Age: The Veil Guardian himself.
