The Arizona State Sun Devils scored their first points in a Big 12 game.

Ian Hershey just kicked a 34-yard field goal to put an ASU football on the scoreboard at the end of an eight-play, 31-yard drive.

ASU's drive once again stalled deep in Texas Tech territory (the Sun Devils had a 1st & 10 at the Texas Tech 18), but still produced some points.

Texas Tech has 74 yards of second penalties, most of them on defense, but ASU was unable to capitalize.

Score: Texas Tech 14, Arizona State 3 (13:08 remaining in the second quarter)

We have reached the end of the first quarter in Lubbock and the Sun Devils are trailing the Red Raiders 14-0.

But ASU is looking for its third possession of the game.

Texas Tech has 108 total yards in this game, Arizona State has 47.

Six penalties for 59 yards were assessed against Texas Tech. Three penalties for 28 yards were assessed against ASU.

The most important statistic of the first quarter? ASU had one interception, Texas Tech had zero. The Sun Devils also lost the ball on a tackle attempt.

Score: Texas Tech 14, ASU Football 0 (end of first quarter)

On the third attempt in defense, however, it was a lucky hit for the Sun Devils, who forced Texas Tech to punt for the first time in the game.

The Red Raiders completed the drive with a score of 3-0.

ASU was able to gain 69 yards on its second offensive attempt of the game but failed to score.

Can the Sun Devils put this possession on the scoreboard?

Arizona State was looking to make something happen on its second possession of the game against Texas Tech.

ASU went all out on 4th & 1 at its own 26-yard line on its second possession of the game while already trailing 14-0, and extended the drive when Texas Tech was called for pass interference on a long ball thrown by Sam Leavitt due to a very bold call by Arizona State coach Kenny Dillingham.

Texas Tech gave ASU three first downs on a penalty and the Sun Devils seemed to be in prime position to get back into the game, but Cam Skattebo could only run one yard on three attempts after ASU had a 2nd & 2 at the Texas Tech 15-yard line and lost the ball to the Red Raiders on one down.

ASU only managed 13 yards on eight rushing attempts in this game.

The positive? ASU's defense got some rest from the Sun Devils' attack, but Arizona State was unable to score.

This is not the start to Big 12 play that ASU had envisioned.

Texas Tech scored two touchdowns on two possessions to build an early 14-0 lead in Lubbock, Texas.

ASU had brought Texas Tech to a third & 21 on the drive, but a facemask penalty against the Sun Devils breathed new life into the Red Raiders. And they took advantage.

Berhren Morton completed a 20-yard pass to Josh Kelly for a touchdown. The Red Raiders gained 38 yards in six plays for a touchdown after an interception by Sam Leavitt.

ASU was down 21-7 against Texas State last week before rallying to win 31-28, so the Sun Devils have the ability to bounce back in this game.

However, they dug themselves a hole early in their opening game in the Big 12 Conference.

Score: Texas Tech 14, Arizona State 0 (7:42 remaining in the first quarter)

The Sun Devils got off to a rocky start on offense in Lubbock.

Sam Leavitt was hit while throwing his first pass of the game and the ball was intercepted, giving Texas Tech the ball at the ASU 38-yard line for the Red Raiders' second possession.

ASU's defense could really use a big stop here on Texas Tech's second drive of the game.

The Red Raiders decided to get the ball and quickly took a 7-0 lead after driving 64 yards in 10 plays and scoring a touchdown on a 2-yard pass from Behren Morton to Johncarlos Miller II.

Morton completed 4 of 6 passes on this drive and threw for 49 yards.

The Red Raiders ran 13 yards on four runs.

Score: Texas Tech 7, Arizona State 0 (11:20 remaining in the first quarter)
