Longtime LSU football employee dies after accident

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Members of the LSU football community are mourning the loss of a longtime employee.

The university confirmed that Charles Baglio passed away on Friday evening, October 18th.

According to Louisiana State Police, Baglio was struck by a vehicle following an accident in Tangipahoa Parish. Officials say Baglio was involved in an initial collision with another vehicle on US Highway 51 at Kohnke Hill Road.

After the accident, Baglio got out of his vehicle to check on the other driver. After exiting the shoulder on foot and re-entering the roadway, Baglio was walking back to his vehicle when he was struck by a separate vehicle traveling south on U.S. Highway 51.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Baglio spent 20 years at LSU as football director of external relations, serving in three national championships, four SEC titles and serving as three football head coaches.

Before joining the LSU football team, Baglio also had a 34-year coaching career at Independence High School. During this time he was head coach for more than 20 years.

According to LSU, Baglio is one of the 50 winningest coaches in Louisiana high school football history. He achieved 205 wins and was also inducted into the LHSAA Hall of Fame in 2001.

Baglio was 81 years old.

Funeral arrangements are still pending.
