Lonzo Ball's injury status for the Bulls-Cavs game

UPDATE: Lonzo Ball has been ruled out (h/t Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun Times).

The Chicago Bulls face the Cleveland Cavaliers in their first preseason game on Tuesday evening.

The Bulls could bring Lonzo Ball back onto the field for the game.

Via Will Gottlieb of CHGO Sports on Monday: “There's no way Billy would commit to Lonzo playing in Cleveland tomorrow. I still want to strengthen it further, but I made contact yesterday.”

For Bulls fans, just the thought of potentially putting the ball back on the court is huge.

Matt Roth added more details: “Lonzo Ball is a game-time decision against the Cavs today. He has not played a game since January 14, 2022.”

Ball came into the league with a lot of hype when he was selected with the second overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft out of UCLA.

He finished his only season with the Bulls averaging 13.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 1.8 steals per game while shooting 42.3% from the field in 35 games (2021-22). Shot 42.3% from three-point range.

In addition to the Bulls, Ball also spent time with the New Orleans Pelicans and the Los Angeles Lakers.

About Evan Sidery on October 6: “Lonzo Ball continues to respond well to the increasing workload as he prepares for his unprecedented comeback.

Ball is expected to play a key role in the Bulls' second unit.

Ball will be the first professional athlete to successfully return from a knee cartilage transplant.”

The Bulls will play their first regular season game on October 23rd when they visit the New Orleans Pelicans.
