Lunds & Byerlys recalls dipping sauce due to mold

Lunds & Byerlys voluntarily recalled its L&B Lone Star Dip on Friday due to “potential mold contamination.”

Hundreds of containers of a Minnesota supermarket company's dipping sauce have been recalled because of possible mold contamination, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Lunds & Byerlys, an upscale supermarket chain, has voluntarily recalled about 500 containers of its L&B Lone Star Dip, the FDA announced Friday.

The recalled sauce was sold at Lunds & Byerlys stores in the Twin Cities and surrounding areas, the federal agency said. To date, no illnesses have been reported in connection with the recall.

USA TODAY contacted Lunds & Byerlys on Monday but did not receive a response.

How was possible mold contamination determined?

Store employees initially noticed the possible contamination and then reported the problem to Lunds & Byerlys' quality assurance team, the FDA said.

If a customer recently purchased L&B Lone Star Dip, the FDA requires them to “return it to Lunds & Byerlys for a full refund (no receipt required) or destroy the product immediately.”

According to the supermarket's website, the dip is typically used on a sandwich, a wrap, or with Lunds & Byerlys tortilla chips.
