Lynx's Cheryl Reeve confronted Sun during the Game 1 celebration

The heated semifinal series between the Lynx and Sun reportedly spilled onto the field after Game 1 on Sunday.

According to The Athletic, Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve confronted Connecticut players outside the visitors' locker room in Minneapolis about how the Suns celebrated their opening win.

The 2024 Coach and Manager of the Year reportedly ran toward the Sun players and stadium security had to intervene to de-escalate the situation.

The series opener between the No. 2 Lynx and No. 3 Sun was about to end when Minnesota's Napheesa Collier missed a potential game-winning 3-pointer with just one second left.

At the buzzer, Sun's Alyssa Thomas, who was one assist away from a triple-double with 17 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists, celebrated by roaring and leaning toward the Sun bench to join her teammates in sealing the victory enjoy .

The WNBA admitted it was aware of the incident.

“It's like the players always say, there are really competitive people,” Reeve told reporters after the Lynx's 90-81 Game 3 win over the Sun when asked about the confrontation. “Really competitive people. It’s the playoffs.”

Suns head coach Stephanie White admitted Friday that she was not present at the alleged confrontation and “had no comment,” according to The Athletic.

So far it has been a physical series between the two teams.

In Game 2, Sun's Marina Mabrey drew a foul for sticking out her foot and tripping Lynx's Bridget Carleton in the second quarter.

Later, Mabrey was also involved in a huddle over a loose ball and jumped on Collier while the 2024 Defensive Player of the Year pushed Mabrey away and Minnesota's Myisha Hines-Allen also gave Mabrey a push to get out of his way.

The Lynx have not made it to the semifinals since 2020 and the last time they took home a title was in 2017 against the Sparks.

On the other hand, the Sun have been close in recent years but have yet to win a championship.

In the last five years they have reached the semi-finals three times and the final twice without emerging victorious.

With no rookies on their roster and no free agency available this offseason for Thomas, Brionna Jones and DeWanna Bonner, their chances are running out.

The Lynx currently lead the best-of-five series 2-1 with Game 4 scheduled for Sunday at 5 p.m. at Mohegan Sun Arena.
