MacKinnon and Avalanche rebound late in overtime against the Ducks to earn their first win

MacKinnon skated in from the neutral zone and beat Anaheim goaltender Lukas Dostal with a wrist shot from the slot. The goal came after Troy Terry tied the game with a wrist shot from the left circle with 13 seconds left in the third period, drawing Dostal for the extra fielder.

Ross Colton scored two goals in the third period, Casey Mittelstadt had a goal and an assist and Mikko Rantanen had three assists for the Avalanche (1-4-0), who failed to lose their fifth straight game to start the season. Alexandar Georgiev made 16 saves.

Leo Carlsson and Ryan Strome also scored and Dostal made 45 saves for the Ducks (2-1-1).

Anaheim had a record of 49:19 after two periods, including 35:11.

Carlsson gave the Ducks a 1-0 lead at 6:05 of the first period when, in the middle of a scrum at the front of the net, he spotted a loose puck along Georgiev's leg pad and knocked it in.

Strome made it 2-0 at 19:36 after knocking down the rebound from Brian Dumoulin's first shot.

Mittelstadt cut the lead to 2-1 with a breakaway 57 seconds into the second period. Nikolai Kovalenko sent him into the neutral zone with the first pass before Mittelstadt finished with a forehand-backhand movement over Dostal's leg.

Colton tied the score at 2-2 with a power play goal 35 seconds into the third period. Mittelstadt, during a 5-on-3, threw a pass from the left circle to Colton, who scored a one-timer between the circles.

Colton's second goal gave the Avalanche a 3-2 lead at 11:42 when he one-timed Rantanen's centering pass from behind the net on the edge of the left circle.
