Madonna's brother Christopher Ciccone has died at the age of 63.

His rep confirmed the news to Fox News Digital, saying he died “peacefully” of cancer on October 4. He was “surrounded by love,” with his husband, Ray Thacker, and loved ones by his side.

Ciccone was the fifth child and third son of his and Madonna's parents, Madonna Louise (Fortin) and Silvio Patrick Ciccone, in Pontiac, Michigan, and later grew up in Rochester.

He studied at Western Michigan and Oakland universities before moving to New York City, “where he used his craft as a dancer and choreographer to support his sister Madonna's budding singing career,” the family statement said.

Ciccone's role expanded and he became a decorator and creative consultant for Madonna during her rise to fame, as well as working on the interior design of her homes in New York, Miami and Los Angeles.

After his work with Madonna, he continued to work in interior design, shoe design, and as a memoirist and painter. He often showcased his artwork on his Instagram.

He later moved to the northern reaches of the lower Michigan Peninsula “to work and be closer to family – many of whom work in his father's winery, Ciccone Vineyards, in Sutton's Bay near Traverse City.”

In 2016, Ciccone married British-born actor Ray Thacker.

He is survived by “his father, his siblings Martin, Madonna, Paula and Melanie (Chris was predeceased by his eldest brother Anthony and his stepmother Joan Gustafson Ciccone), siblings Jennifer and Mario, and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends worldwide. “

Representatives for Madonna did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.

The siblings once had a contentious relationship following the release of Ciccone's tell-all book Life with My Sister Madonna in 2008.

In the book, he claimed that Madonna revealed his sexuality in a 1991 interview with The Advocate and claimed that her ex-husband Guy Ritchie was homophobic. He also noted that there was a turning point in their relationship when she took cameras to her mother's grave for her documentary “Truth or Dare.”

At the time, a representative for Madonna said The Associated Press said that while it had not read the memoir, it found it “very disturbing” that he “decided to sell a book based on his sister.”

In 2012, Ciccone addressed their relationship in an interview with The Evening Standard, telling the outlet, “As far as I'm concerned, we're fine. We're in touch with each other, even though I haven't seen them for a while.” We've been brother and sister again for a long time. I don't work for them and it's better that way.

Ciccone's death marks the second family loss in recent months for the “Material Girl” singer.

In September, an online obituary reported that Madonna's stepmother Joan Clare Ciccone had died at the age of 81 after “a brief encounter with a very aggressive cancer.”
