Man wanted for murder of his brother in Houston in 2022 was caught in Iowa

CALHOUN COUNTY, IA — A man wanted for allegedly shooting his brother in a northwest Houston apartment in 2022 has been arrested in Iowa.

Kyle Andrew Coolack, 39, was wanted for murder in connection with the death of his brother Brad Henry Coolack, 35, who was found dead in March 2022. Brad Coolack was shot multiple times in an apartment in the 7200 block of West Greens Road.

Houston police said witnesses in the area said they heard two people arguing and then heard several gunshots. Kyle Coolack was initially identified as the person involved in this incident and the murder charge was filed on July 15, 2022.

After two years on the run, Coolack was found in Calhoun County, Iowa.

The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office said they received a call Saturday from a man who said he had just kicked another man out of his house. The man had recently been in the house. Authorities were told in an interview that the man, identified as Coolack, admitted to being on the run because he killed his own brother, which led to the resident kicking Coolack out of the house.

A Calhoun County deputy located Coolack outside the town of Pomeroy as he walked south on a highway. He was arrested and interrogated.

After initially giving deputies a false name, Coolack revealed his real name to deputies. While reviewing the files, officers were able to locate the outstanding murder warrant for which Coolack was wanted.

Coolack was arrested and taken to the Carroll County Jail, where he awaited extradition to Houston.
