HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall football returns home for a nationally televised primetime game on Thursday when the Thundering Herd hosts Georgia State at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2. The game's theme is “We are…grateful for heroes,” as Marshall salutes his military personnel and first responders.

NOTES BEFORE THE GAME

Both teams come into play within a short week of each other after each missing Saturday's SBC action. Marshall lost 24-23 at Georgia Southern, while Georgia State suffered a 21-14 loss at home to Old Dominion.

Marshall is currently 3-0 at home this season and is averaging 41.3 points per game in its games at Joan C. Edwards Stadium.

Georgia State enters the competition just 2-3 on the season and has yet to win a Sun Belt Conference game, but one of those two victories was a huge 36-32 win over SEC foe Vanderbilt, a late top-10 seed eliminated enemy and eternal power Alabama.

Both Marshall and Georgia State used two quarterbacks in their last contest with the Herd Stone Earle And Braylon Braxton and the Panthers use Christian Veilleux and Zach Gibson.

ABOUT MARSHALL

Marshall enters the competition 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the Sun Belt Conference under head coach Charles Huff, who is 25-20 in four years with the Herd.

The Herd offense utilized a dual quarterback attack Stone Earle And Braylon Braxton Everyone experienced a lot of time and led Marshall to success.

Run back AJ Turner He continues to lead the Sun Belt in rushing yards this season with 540 yards on 56 carries. He averages 9.6 yards per carry.

This season, Marshall's offensive line has allowed just six sacks while gaining 201.7 yards per game on the ground.

On the defensive side, Marshall linebacker Jaden Yates continues to lead the Sun Belt with 56 tackles. Yates also has 2.5 tackles for loss and a fumble recovery.

Defensive end Mike Green has continued to establish himself among the top defensive linemen in FBS. Green currently ranks third nationally in sacks (8.0) and sacks per game (1.33), but is also tied for 5thTh in duels against loss (10.5).

Defensive back Jacobie Henderson also had an interception in each of the last two games.

ABOUT STATE OF GEORGIA


Georgia State is in its first season under head coach Dell McGee, who took over the Panthers after winning a national championship at Georgia last season.

The Panthers rank third in the SBC in passing offense, throwing for 267 yards per game. However, Georgia State is ranked 114thTh out of 134 teams in the rushing offense that gained just 109.2 yards on the ground on each pass.

Defensively, Georgia State is led by linebackers Xavier Robinson and Justin Abraham, who have 34 and 32 tackles, respectively. Kevin Swint is also a force and ranks behind Marshall Mike Green for second place in the SBC in sacks with 4.0.

HISTORY OF THE SERIES

The series between the teams is new and splits the two games in which they met. The home team has won each time, with Marshall winning 28-23 in Huntington in 2022 and the Panthers winning 41-24 in Atlanta last season.
