Mets AND Grimace return to Citi Field – NBC New York

The Mets are back at Citi Field for a crucial third game against the rival Phillies, and fans may be more excited to see Grimace again.

Videos posted on social media show fans chanting “Let's go Mets” around the purple McDonald's mascot on the subway on Tuesday as they all ride the 7 train, which also happens to be the purple line, to the festival. of-Five of the NL Division Series tied the game 1-1.

Grimace, who became an unlikely hero after throwing out the first pitch over the summer as the Mets snapped a seven-game winning streak, was part of the MTA's effort to get fans to take public transportation to the playoffs.

The MTA released a photo of Grimace riding the 7 train with the Grimace decal that afternoon, as well as a video of subway riders around him dressed in orange and blue.

“Be like Grimace and take the train to Citi Field to watch the @New York Mets in the NLDS playoffs! @McDonald's,” the agency's TikTok caption read.

When the Mets left town on Sept. 22 after a Sunday night win over Philadelphia, their stated goal was to secure a National League wild card and last long enough in the postseason to play in Queens again this year.

Not an easy task, they certainly knew that. And with all the emotional highs they've been on lately, it's easy to forget that the Mets are just 5-6 overall since their last home game.

But here they are. Now the Mets can pack up their own stadium on Tuesday and play in front of a friendly crowd for the first time this October.

“I expect it to be crazy,” said left-hander Sean Manaea, who is scheduled to start Game 3 against Aaron Nola while Alec Bohm drops back into Philadelphia’s lineup. “This place can definitely rock. The last few games we’ve had here have been pretty great.”

“We’ve all talked about what this place will look like,” he added. “There is definitely a feeling of rejuvenation. The journey can be crazy, but I’m excited to capitalize on this energy.”
