Michigan State Football vs Iowa Live Score: Game Updates, Highlights

Michigan State football enters a critical Big Ten matchup after a week off and looks to end its three-game losing streak.

Michigan State (3-3, 1-2 Big Ten) hosts Iowa (4-2, 2-1 Big Ten) on Saturday night at Spartan Stadium. It's MSU's fourth night game in a row. The Spartans are coming off a bye week after losing three straight games, including two losses to top-five Oregon and Ohio State. MSU first-year head coach Jonathan Smith, sophomore quarterback Aidan Chiles and the Spartans must win three of their final six games to be bowl eligible.

Iowa is coming off a stunning 40-16 win over Washington after also being defeated by Ohio State. MSU has suffered two straight losses to Iowa and is looking for its first win over the Hawkeyes since 2017. The Hawkeyes have improved on offense, with healthy Michigan transfer Cade McNamara at quarterback and junior Kaleb Johnson (13 touchdowns) at running back. The defense is holding teams to 17.7 points per game.

Michigan State vs. Iowa live updates, match highlights

Michigan State's injury report did not include any new names after the bye week. Defensive backs Dillon Tatum and Chance Rucker as well as wide receiver Antonio Gates Jr. remain out and wide receiver Alante Brown was listed as questionable. Brown, warming up in pads, hasn't played since the season opener against Florida Atlantic.

Notes before the Michigan State-Iowa game

Michigan State wants to return to the formula that produced wins earlier in the season. The Spartans' offense was inconsistent with ball movement and struggled with turnovers, while the defense, which appeared stingy, was inferior compared to the conference's top teams.

With 14 turnovers in six games, MSU ranks nationally in scoring (19.8 points per game) and total offense (349.8 yards per game). Better ball security from quarterback Aidan Chiles, along with more consistency, is of utmost importance to keep drives alive.

Defensively, the Spartans started strong but couldn't keep up against two national title contenders in Oregon and OSU. Michigan State has struggled against the run in these games and will be tested against a Hawkeyes offense that averages 228.8 rushing yards per game.

MSU is dealing with injuries at all three levels. The secondary was hit the hardest, but the biggest question marks are linebacker Jordan Hall and defensive tackle Maverick Hansen, who are both questionable.
