Mild October weather in San Diego could last until Halloween – San Diego Union-Tribune

The strong Santa Ana winds that typically blow across San Diego County in October remained largely absent, and it's possible they will remain that way through Halloween, the National Weather Service said.

The absence of dry, hot offshore winds also means temperatures will remain fairly mild across the country.

Daily maximum temperatures along the coast will be 2 to 3 degrees above average on Tuesday and Wednesday, slowly falling below average later in the week. Areas just a few miles from the ocean will reach low 80s over the next few days, and Borrego Springs could reach 100 degrees, a rare occurrence this time of year. It will then cool down inland by the weekend.

Forecasters expect temperatures to turn chilly overnight this weekend, dropping to as low as 60 degrees on Saturday when Mariachi Los Comperos hosts a Día de los at the Rady Shell on San Diego Bay starting at 6 p.m Muertos celebration and UC San Diego's outdoor Epstein Family Amphitheater, where actress Laura Linney and artist Jeppe Hein will discuss art, mental health and mindfulness starting at 7 p.m

Forecast models suggest a low pressure system could arrive on Sunday or Monday, bringing with it lower temperatures, a strong marine layer and an increase in winds. However, there are no clear signs that the mighty Santa Anas will arrive any time soon.

“The lack of strong winds in October is good news,” said Brandt Maxwell, a weather service forecaster and wildfire conditions expert. “But we also haven’t received any rain to reduce the risk of wildfires.”
