Morgan Freeman reveals stage fright and recalls a “terrifying” incident

The 87-year-old told Good Morning Britain that theater work was “too big a challenge for me” and said he would not try it again.

Freeman most recently appeared on stage as David Boles in Dustin Lance Black's play 8, about the trial between Perry and Schwarzenegger that led to the repeal of a bill banning same-sex marriage in California.

Of his experiences on stage, Freeman said: “I was doing plays in the West End and that's when I regained my stage consciousness.

“Now I am no longer stage conscious because the stage is too much of a challenge for me.

“The last time I was on stage I forgot my lines and I can't express how frightening that is.

“You don't get that in the movies, if you forget the lines, you just say, 'Okay, what was that again?' And someone gives it to you. Or you say cut, someone says cut, I'll never do that.

“You can’t do that on stage and I’m terrified to go back and try it.”

Freeman also opened up about his enjoyment of the latest season of the Paramount+ spy thriller “Special Ops: Lioness.”

“I definitely enjoy the work, it's kind of a stroke of luck that I can continue as I am and play this role,” he said.

“But this line-up is one of the highlights of life, I’m thrilled to say the least.”

Throughout his career, Freeman won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for “Million Dollar Baby” and is also known for roles in “Shawshank Redemption” (1995), “Driving Miss Daisy” (1990) and “Invictus” (2009).
