NBA changes Warriors vs. Blazers final score after admitting mistake – NBC Sports Bay Area & California

Well, that doesn't happen every day.

The NBA admitted Thursday that it made a mistake in the Warriors' big season-opening win over the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday at Moda Center.

The mistake came with 2:00 minutes left in the third quarter when Golden State guard De'Anthony Melton was at the free throw line. He made one of two free throws, but one of them was not credited to him and the Warriors.

Golden State led 91-67 when Melton attempted his first free throws and ultimately won 139-104. The league said the game was updated to reflect a correct score of 140-104, and Melton's debut stat line for the Warriors now includes all 11 of his points.

The Dubs will get the extra point, but they didn't need it.

Superstar Warriors guard Steph Curry finished the game with 17 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds, and wing Buddy Hield contributed 22 points off the bench, shooting 5 of 7 on 3-pointers in his Golden State debut. Forwards – Jonathan Kuminga, Trayce Jackson-Davis, Andrew Wiggins and Moses Moody – and Melton also scored in double figures.

But Warriors guard Brandin Podziemski capped the game with a game-high plus-35 plus-minus without scoring – Golden State was on the rise.

It was the fourth time in franchise history that the Warriors scored more than 140 points in a season opener. Updated score or not, the Trail Blazers also conceded the most points in an opening game in their franchise history.
