The Los Angeles Lakers won't wait long until Tuesday's season opener against the Minnesota Timberwolves to get LeBron and Bronny James on the court together.

Appears on Tuesday's episode of Sports centerESPN's Shams Charania said it's “very likely” that LeBron and Bronny will become the first father-son duo to play together in an NBA game “early on” the game:

“I'm told it's very likely, and the Lakers plan, that LeBron James and Bronny James will make history as the first father-son duo to be on the court at the same time and will probably show up at the start of the game as long as it is “It's a competitive game, and I think the Lakers want to allow that to happen in a competitive environment as the game progresses,” he said on Monday that there is no final plan yet for both to play together on opening night, but the Lakers have spent a lot of time discussing this internally. This has never happened in the NBA, probably never will. Think again about LeBron James in his 22nd year, he's been making this happen for several years now, and now it's about to come to fruition.

LeBron and Bronny played together once during the preseason on October 6, in the Lakers' 118-114 loss to the Phoenix Suns.

It seems that this has been the plan for some time, as Charania said back on October 10 that the father-son duo could play together as early as opening night.

If Lakers head coach JJ Redick follows the same plan as the preseason game against the Suns, Bronny's appearance could come early in the second quarter.

After playing sparingly on the bench in the first five preseason games, Bronny made his first career start on October 18 against the Golden State Warriors. The Lakers rested their entire starting lineup for this game, allowing the 20-year-old to play 35 minutes.

It was Bronny's longest playing time in a game since he suffered cardiac arrest in July 2023 before his first season at USC. He only played 30 minutes once in 25 games for the Trojans.

Bronny finished the game against the Warriors with 17 points, four rebounds and three steals.

“I think for him and all of our younger players, all moments are building blocks,” Redick said said after the game. “Not just the good moments. The bad moments are opportunities to learn. I think you have to have a certain amount of patience and optimism. I am very confident about the level of work of our young people. So again, I think it felt good for him to have 17 points. I don't even have the slightest concern that we want to help him become a great basketball player.

LeBron has been talking about wanting to play with his Bronny for years. He told The Athletic's Jason Lloyd in February 2022 that his final year in the NBA “will be played with my son.”

While there is no indication that the 2024-25 season will be LeBron's last in the NBA, it seems all but certain that his dream of playing alongside Bronny will become a reality sometime Tuesday night.

The Lakers host the Timberwolves on Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET at Crypto.com Arena.
