Neil Gaiman is not producing a finale

Neil Gaiman is leaving Good Omens (mostly) amid bad press.

The series' creator, showrunner, executive producer and writer has stepped away from the third season of the series, whose pre-production was paused due to assault allegations against Gaiman, according to Deadline.

Prime Video announced today that Good Omens will return as a feature-length series finale, produced without Gaiman's involvement – although he did help write it.

“Although Gaiman contributed to the writing of the series finale of 'Good Omens,' he will not be working on the production,” the official press release reads.

“Good Omens” stars Michael Sheen as the angel and David Tennant as the demon Crowley. Frances McDormand, Jon Hamm and Miranda Richardson star. The series is an adaptation of Gaiman's novel Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch, co-written with Terry Pratchett. Season 3 is produced by Amazon MGM Studios, BBC Studios Productions, Blank Corporation and Narrativia.

The entire third season will only consist of one 90-minute episode. Production is scheduled to begin in Scotland in early 2025.

The episode, described by Prime Video as an “upcoming season,” will “bring to life a chance conversation from nearly 35 years ago between the late Sir Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, in which they laid out what happens next.” wonderful characters in the world of her internationally best-selling novel.”

“Good Omens” first premiered as a limited series on Prime Video in May 2019. The series was later renewed for a second season, which aired in July 2023. The new third season is produced by Amazon MGM Studios, BBC Studios Productions and Narrativia. Narrativia's Rob Wilkins, who represents author Pratchett's estate, will executive produce alongside comedy boss Josh Cole of BBC Studios Productions.

“Good Omens” co-creator Gaiman has been accused by four women of engaging in non-consensual “rough and degrading sex” and coercion. The allegations were made during Tortoise Media's four-part podcast “Master: The Allegations Against Neil Gaiman.”

Two women who had relationships with Gaiman were included on the podcast. One of the women worked as a nanny for Gaiman's child and claimed Gaiman attacked her at his home in New Zealand in February 2022. In October 2022, she lodged a complaint with the New Zealand Police.

The second woman claimed that she and Gaiman began a romantic relationship when she was 18 after a book signing in Florida in 2003.

Since the podcast was released, three additional women have come forward with allegations of sexual assault and abuse. Tortoise Media released a fifth episode of the podcast that included two of the women's additional allegations.

Gaiman denied the sexual assault allegations in July 2024.

His upcoming Disney+ feature film adaptation of “The Graveyard Book” was shelved in the wake of the allegations.
