New Orleans Won't Let Swifties Listen Outside Concert | Taylor Swift

Despite its 83,000 seats, Caesars Superdome can't contain Swifties' enthusiasm for the Eras Tour. Their influence has exploded across the city in the form of themed bar crawls, Halloween decorations and even drag brunches.

Every city Taylor Swift has performed in has had its share of heartbroken fans who couldn't secure a ticket. And that's no surprise considering they sell for well over $1,000.

But in some cities, like Nashville and Philadelphia, fans without tickets flocked to their concert halls to hear the megastar.

A phenomenon known as “Taylor gating” has taken over their tour, as fans looking for a free way to immerse themselves in the magic of the Eras Tour listen to their setlist from outside their concert venues.

But in New Orleans, a free show for fans is out of the question, city officials have decided.

Champions Square — a 90,000-square-foot amphitheater next to the Superdome reserved for football tailgates — will be open to the public on Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., New Orleans officials say.

But during the three days of Taylor Swifts concerts, the area will be cordoned off so that no fans can sing and dance outside the cathedral.

Can I still buy merch?

If you don't have a ticket and still want to go downtown to buy Swift merch, you can stop by the Smoothie King Center from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m

On concert days, vendors will be in the Superdome selling merchandise at the following locations:

  • 100 – Plaza Level
  • 200 – Lodge Level
  • 300/400 – Suite levels
  • Terrace levels

Will any roads be closed?

In anticipation of the rush, the NOPD said it may close several streets including Poydras, Canal, Loyola Avenue and Convention Center Boulevard from Oct. 25-27.

It is expected that parts of the French Quarter will also be closed.
