The New York Liberty are WNBA champions for the first time and the celebration is underway.

New York City is hosting a ticker parade on Thursday as part of a holiday celebration after the Liberty defeated the Minnesota Lynx on Sunday in Game 5 of the WNBA Finals, a contest that ended up being the most-watched WNBA Finals game in 25 years was years, according to ESPN.

It's been a long time coming for one of the WNBA's original franchises, which suffered four straight losses before emerging as the league's best team last year. But those struggles led to the changes that turned Sabrina Ionescu, Breanna Stewart, Jonquel Jones and more into a squad that will now receive its deserved coronation in the Big Apple.

The New York Liberty Championship Parade is officially underway. Players on floats and buses celebrate with fans on Broadway and in the Canyon of Heroes in Manhattan.

When is the New York Liberty Championship Parade?

The Liberty will host a parade to celebrate the 2024 WNBA Championship on Thursday, October 24th.

The Victory Parade is free to attend and begins at 10 a.m. ET at Battery Place. Very quickly it turns onto Broadway and heads up the Canyon of Heroes, a 0.8-mile stretch that ends at City Hall.

What will the New York Liberty Championship Parade include?

The Ticker Parade for Liberty includes a slow procession up Broadway, leading from the southern edge of Manhattan to City Hall. Upon arrival, the Liberty takes part in a ceremony on the steps of City Hall (an event whose start time depends on the speed of the parade and its completion). While the ceremony at City Hall is open to the public, the team has announced that all tickets for the event have been picked up.

Liberty will then host a championship celebration at Barclays Center on Thursday at 7 p.m. Although this event is free and open to the public, tickets are required and according to the team's website, those tickets have already sold out.

How to watch the New York Freedom Parade

The Liberty's ticker parade celebrating the team's 2024 WNBA championship victory will be streamed on ABC 7 NY and on Fox 5 NY.
