NFL fans confused by rough passer penalty that extended Jets' scoring streak

The tightening of passer penalties continues to cause a lot of confusion among NFL fans. They had a really bad day on Monday night, one of the worst of the 2024 season so far.

As the New York Jets faced third-and-8 from their 39-yard line, Aaron Rodgers dropped back and was sacked by Buffalo Bills defensive end AJ Epenesa. Unfortunately for the Bills, they received a flag for roughing the passer.

The video of the piece can be found below.

This appears to have been a decision based on the “body weight rule” put in place by the NFL, but no one could really understand how Epenesa was supposed to avoid landing on Rodgers.

Even Rodgers seemed to sympathize with Epenesa, saying, “It's a difficult decision.”

The fans were not happy with the flag.

This call also had consequences. Instead of a fourth-and-8 on their own end, the Jets were awarded a first down. They ran the ball down and scored a field goal, tying the game 20-20 with 6:13 left in the third quarter.
