Seahawks cornerback Dee Williams tried to defend a 49ers punt because he was surrounded by a 49ers player and one of his teammates. At first glance, it appeared as if the ball was about to come off William's finger as it jumped into the air. The ball appeared to be recovered by the 49ers.

However, NFL officials ruled the ball down and determined the ball did not touch Williams. San Francisco challenged the game, but the rule was upheld.

In the Prime Video replay, the ball appeared to bounce off Williams' finger, but there appeared to be a problem. NFL officials in the command center didn't have that point of view.

“I spoke to Walt Anderson (NFL rules analyst and club communications liaison) at the command center in New York and they told me they didn't get our enhanced video that we showed – the ball touches the finger,” said Prime Video rules analyst Terry McAulay.

“What they had was the raw footage from our cameras. And it wasn’t clear and obvious to her that it touched the finger.”

The piece and the statement caused a stir at X.

Meanwhile, the Seahawks put the ball away on their next drive and their comeback attempt failed.
