Nick Sirianni plays down the chatter from Eagles fans after the narrow home win over the Browns

Philadelphia Eagles fans are restless.

A 2-2 start after a season-ending collapse in 2023 sparked calls for head coach Nick Sirianni to take over. A narrow home win Sunday against one of the NFL's worst teams didn't quell those demands.

Eagles fans reportedly erupted in boos and chants of “Fire Nick” during Sunday's game against the Cleveland Browns at Lincoln Financial Field. The Eagles held on for a 20-16 win, improving to 3-2 and moving the Cleveland Browns to 1-5.

When the game was over, Sirianni had a few words to the Eagles fans in the stands.

It is not clear what was said. But the interaction didn't seem to be particularly cordial.

After the game, Sirianni was asked about the exchange. He declined to share his words, downplaying the interaction as saying he was “excited” about the win.

“Just excited. Just excited to get the win,” Sirianni said.

When Sirianni was asked several follow-up questions about the exchange, he continued to deflect.

“I’m just excited to win,” Sirianni continued. “It's hard to win in this league. That's why we're happy about the win. Our fans made a few false starts that really helped us win this football game.”

“I’m just happy about the win and appreciate the Linc’s support.”

Those questions were the first Sirianni faced in his postgame press conference. He gave his answers while surrounded by his three young children.

The Eagles started the season 2-2 and entered a bye last week after suffering a 33-16 loss to the same Tampa Bay Buccaneers team that eliminated them in the wild card with a 32-9 loss in January the postseason catapulted rounds.

The playoff loss followed a 1-5 finish in the 2023 regular season, followed by a 10-1 start, and laid the groundwork for critics to question whether Sirianni was the right man for the Eagles job team that is designed to compete for a Super Bowl. Complicating matters are reports of a strained relationship between Siranni and quarterback Jalen Hurts.

Six weeks into the 2024 season, the Eagles hardly look like a Super Bowl contender. The dissatisfaction with Sirianni has not subsided.

Sirianni survived the Eagles' bye week with his job. But unless the team shows signs of significant improvement in the coming weeks, the calls for his job are unlikely to stop.
