Nina Dobrev and Shaun White have announced their engagement after an intimate proposal in New York City.

The couple, who have been together since 2019, shared the big news in an interview fashionpublished on October 30th. Speaking to the publication, White explained how he wanted to surprise the actor with the question and decided to do it during what would normally be a normal week in October.

He described weeks of planning that included setting up white roses, candles and a photographer in a private room at The Golden Swan restaurant in New York City. He also hid Lorraine Schwartz's five-carat engagement ring in various places around his house where Dobrev couldn't find it.

White then sent Dobrev a fake invitation from CFDA/Fashion, who invited her to dinner with the magazine's editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour.

“He made the invitation look so legitimate,” Dobrev said.

However, when she opened the door to the restaurant, she found that only a photographer and the former snowboarder were there. “I was in shock. I just froze and stared at him,” Dobrev said. Then she said, “No, no, no!” in happy disbelief.

“I knew she was nervous because when she's nervous she jokes. She says, 'So wait, Anna's not here?'” White added.

According to the Love hard Star, she can't remember how the proposal turned out. However, she did remember that White “said all the right things” when it happened. After she said yes, the rest of her friends and relatives joined the two and everyone drank champagne in celebration.

“At some point we realized we hadn’t eaten anything except the caviar. So we ordered Shake Shack and Golden Swan dumplings,” Dobrev said.

White and Dobrev began dating in 2019 after meeting at an event in Florida. “I actually didn’t know anything about her,” White said People in 2022. But then he realized she was a celebrity when they had dinner together on another occasion.

“Can we take a picture…with her?” He remembered one of the waiters at the restaurant asking. “And I thought, ‘What’s going on? What's up?' It was really, really funny.”

However, the couple decided to keep their relationship out of the spotlight for some time, which eventually sparked relationship rumors in February 2020 when they shared separate Instagram posts from seemingly the same location. Two months later, White shared his first-ever post of his then-girlfriend on Instagram.

In conversation with fashionWhite confessed that he originally planned to propose to Dobrev during their planned vacation last summer, but the trip was canceled when she had a bicycle accident. In May, Dobrev first shared on Instagram that she was hospitalized following the accident.

At the time, she shared two photos of herself, one of which showed her sitting on an electric bike, while the second showed her sitting in a hospital bed in a neck brace and a second brace on her knee.

“How it started and how it’s going,” she captioned the post.

In June, Dobrev gave an update on her recovery, sharing pictures from the hospital showing that she had undergone successful surgery following the accident.

“Thank you to everyone who sent kind messages, thoughts, prayers and good vibes. I felt the support and positive energy. It means more than you will ever know,” she wrote in the caption.
