“None of this is funny; it humiliates me”

Cynthia Erivo calls for a fan-made poster Evil that hides her face.

Earlier this week, Universal Pictures released a poster for the Jon M. Chu-directed film that paid homage to the poster for the Broadway musical.

The poster for the Broadway production hides Elphaba's eyes and shows her with red lipstick and a grin on her face. On the poster for the film, Erivo's eyes can be seen and she swaps her red lipstick for green.

“The original poster is an ILLUSTRATION. “I am a real human being who has chosen to look directly through the camera at you, the viewer… because without words, we communicate with our eyes,” Erivo posted on her Instagram Stories. “Our poster is a homage, not an imitation. To edit my face and hide my eyes is to erase me. And that’s just deeply hurtful.”

She continued: “This is the wildest, most offensive thing I've ever seen, comparable to this horrible AI of ours that we're fighting, comparable to people posting the question, 'Is your dick green?'” None of that is funny. None of it is sweet. It humiliates me. It demeans us.”

In a second post on Instagram Stories, Erivo told officials Evil movie poster, adding, “Let me include this here to remind you and cleanse your palate.”
