Nottingham Forest coach Nuno Espirito Santo has to sit in the dugout for the game against Fulham despite the red card

Nuno Espirito Santo will be in the dugout when Nottingham Forest take on Fulham at the City Ground on Saturday.

Forest have asked for more time to comment after the Football Association (FA) charged their head coach following angry scenes following Morgan Gibbs-White's 83rd-minute red card at Brighton on Sunday.

The FA has given the club until Wednesday October 2nd to provide these.

Nuno is likely to request a hearing into the incident, which led to him being sent off after he reacted angrily to referee Rob Jones calling Gibbs-White after consultation with fourth official Anthony Taylor whose foul on Joao Pedro resulted in the second yellow card.

Nuno explained that the Key Match Incidents Panel (KMIP) ruled 3-2 that the decision to sack Gibbs-White was wrong after a vigorous but fair challenge. The KMIP – is an independent body made up of former players and coaches as well as a representative from the Premier League and another from Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) – the body that organizes refereeing in England – which reviews key decisions the league every week. Forest are likely to use the KMIP's decision as a mitigation for Nuno's angry reaction on the touchline.

Nuno confirmed that he then went into the referee's room to apologize to the match officials.

“It is sometimes very difficult for managers to control their emotions, this happens to many managers,” Nuno said on Thursday. “It's an emotional game, it was an emotional situation, an emotional part of the game, sometimes it's hard.

“I had the opportunity to apologize for my behavior. I think it was accepted. I will try my best not to repeat it.

“We will respond to the allegations. I think we deserve an opportunity to express our opinion on the incident and we will do so as a club.”

Nuno and Gibbs-White were accused of behaving inappropriately and/or using offensive and/or insulting words.

Nuno is already serving a one-match ban after being critical of match officials following Forest's 2-0 defeat at Everton in April, when Forest had three penalty claims rejected. This penalty was suspended until May 26, on condition that Nuno does not break the rules again.
