Ohio man charged after weapons found in hotel room and vehicle at Chicago's Trump Tower

A 21-year-old Ohio man has been charged after firearms were discovered in his hotel room at Trump Tower in downtown Chicago.

Brandon Peck of Oakwood, Ohio, was arrested Tuesday evening after a Trump Tower employee reported seeing firearms clearly visible in Peck's room, prompting a large response from Chicago police and SWAT teams.

He was later located at the hotel gym and arrested.

Peck told officers he had traveled from Ohio to accompany his mother and stepfather to a doctor's appointment but did not know the time or location of the appointment, officials said. He admitted to having two guns in his hotel room and another in his vehicle, which was parked in the Trump Tower garage.

A search of Peck's hotel room revealed a Bear Creek Arsenal 10mm rifle and a Ruger semi-automatic rifle, as well as a duffel bag containing several magazines, a firearm frame and ammunition.

During a search of his vehicle, a semi-automatic SIG Sauer and other magazines with live cartridges were discovered. A black rifle bag and a black rifle scope were also seized.

According to court documents, Peck told officers he had recently purchased the guns.

He was charged with two felony counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon to possess loaded firearms without a concealed carry license or FOID card. Peck also faces charges of possession of high-capacity magazines and metal-piercing bullets.

No injuries were reported during the incident, but the Trump Tower area was briefly cordoned off during the investigation.
