“Oilers place Raphael Lavoie on waivers.”

Forward Raphael Lavoie issued waivers for the third time this week. Daniel Nugent-Bowman of The Athletic reports that the Oilers will once again try to sneak him to AHL Bakersfield.

Lavoie, a second-round pick by Edmonton in 2019, was initially claimed off waivers Sunday as the Oilers had to leave him off their opening roster to stay within cap limits. The Golden Knights pounced on the 24-year-old and signed him from the Oilers organization, but they weren't interested in keeping him on the NHL roster and instead claimed him in hopes of passing him on to AHL Henderson the next year can day.

However, the Oilers never wanted to lose Lavoie and took advantage of the opportunity to bring him back from the sidelines yesterday. However, they weren't the only team to stake a claim. One of the eight teams that finished ahead of them in the league standings last season also managed to earn a spot, meaning Edmonton couldn't immediately assign Lavoie to Bakersfield after reclaiming it. So he's back at it today as Edmonton looks to bring him back to the minors for a second time.

Lavoie made the AHL All-Star Game roster for the first time last season and scored 28 goals and 50 points in 66 games for the Condors, all career highs. He also made his NHL debut, going pointless and posting a -2 rating in seven appearances for Edmonton. After a brief dance in restricted free agency, he signed a one-year, two-way pact ($775,000/$200,000) to return to the Oilers in the offseason.
