Oregon rises, Alabama falls in Week 9 college football rankings

There's a new No. 1 team in college football this week after Texas lost its first game of the season in an SEC matchup against Georgia, and with more follow-up results involving ranked teams earlier in the week some notable changes in the AP Top 25 rankings 9.

Elsewhere in the SEC, Alabama suffered a second loss before the end of October for the first time since 2007, Nick Saban's first season as head coach, and suddenly the Crimson Tide's playoff hopes are in serious jeopardy after a narrow loss at Tennessee.

Indiana passed a crucial test of its offense by destroying Nebraska at home and remaining undefeated, making the Big Ten championship race all the more interesting alongside the likes of Oregon and Penn State, as well as one-loss Ohio State.

BYU and Iowa State both remained perfect over the weekend, each needing some late-game heroics to hold off upset conference opponents and take the lead in the Big 12 title picture.

Let's take a look at where things stand in the new Top 25 college football rankings, which begin in Week 9, according to AP voters.

These teams received votes in the AP Top 25, but not enough to qualify for this week's official soccer rankings…

Washington State (46)

Syracuse (15)

UNLV (5)

Duke (2)

South Carolina (1)

Nebraska (1)

Freedom (1)

Vanderbilt (was not ranked). History for the Commodores, who climbed into the top 25 rankings for the first time since 2013 after starting 5-2 and having the big win over Alabama on their resume.

Texas (Decrease: 4). Despite a home loss to Georgia, they are still in the top five and the Longhorns are still largely in control of their playoff fate.

Indiana (Up 3). The Hoosiers passed a big test by throttling the Cornhuskers, but there are some concerns about quarterback Kurtis Rourke after he injured his thumb in that game.

Alabama (minus 8). Kalen DeBoer has two losses and the Crimson Tide are currently behind eight-ball in the College Football Playoff picture.

Georgia (plus 3). Not enough votes for the Bulldogs to finish first, but their defense has shown it can still dominate Texas.

Tennessee (up 4). Another slow start on offense, but Nico Iamaleava rebounded later in the game and the Vols' strong ground game and strong defense can get this team places.

With former No. 1 Texas losing to Georgia at home, we have 10 perfect teams to start the second half of the season and no undefeated teams in the SEC.

ACC: Miami, Pittsburgh

Big Ten: Oregon, Penn State, Indiana

Big 12: BYU, Iowa State

AAC: Army, Navy

CUSA: Freedom
