Our favorite photos from the Detroit Tigers' ALDS overtime loss to the Cleveland Guardians

DETROIT – For a few glorious minutes Thursday night, it looked like the Detroit Tigers were headed to their first American League Championship Series since 2013.

Wenceel Perez came on as a pinch hitter in the bottom of the sixth and drove in Kerry Carpenter to give the Tigers a 3-2 lead. As he rounded third base, Carpenter stumbled but managed to reach the plate for the go-ahead run.

When David Fry was called upon to score a hit for the Guardians in the seventh inning with two outs and Steven Kwan on base, Tigers manager AJ Hinch brought in Beau Briske to counter. A few moments later, Fry hit a home run to make the score 2-2 and give the Guardians the lead.

Two innings later, Fry made another game-changing play – a short sac bunt to give Bryan Rocchio a chance to extend the Guardians' lead. Tigers catcher Jake Rogers narrowly missed Rocchio at the plate, and when league-leading closer Emmanuel Clase was on the mound for the Guardians, the Tigers' fate appeared to be sealed.

Jace Jung, replacing Carpenter, managed to hit in one final run, but the Guardians' lead held, sending the series back to Cleveland for Game 5.
