Patriots have clear reasons NOT to start Drake Maye Vs. Texan

It's becoming increasingly difficult to convince New England Patriots fans that the time isn't right for Drake Maye to start.

However, we won't stop trying.

The Patriots suffered another upset loss to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, continuing to suffer offensive woes while their biggest investment in a couple of decades stood on the sidelines and watched. Jacoby Brissett wasn't good enough. Alex Van Pelt continued to put together pretty much everything he could. Jerod Mayo made his own mistakes depending on the situation.

This team isn't fun to watch, we get that, but it wouldn't be fun to watch Maye get buried in his first start either, would it?

The Patriots offensive line is allowing the highest pressure rate in the NFL this season at 48.3%, as Mike Kadlick of CLNS pointed out, while the Houston Texans are allowing the best pressure rate in the league at 42%.

Who will New England play in Week 6?

You guessed it. Houston!

The Texans' Danielle Hunter leads the league with 29 pressures, while fellow quarterback Will Anderson is one of the most explosive pass rushers in the entire NFL. Houston has a top-five pass defense and targets the quarterback better than most teams in the AFC. Is this the team you want Maye to play against?

The Patriots aren't going to win many games no matter who is under center, so that's not a good reason to put Maye out there. New England should continue to wait, as a Week 11 game against the Los Angeles Rams seems like the more optimal time to see what the kid has to offer. Mayo is considering a move but the time is not yet right.
