Peter Frampton will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on Saturday, and even though he's been inducted since 1997, he's still surprised by the recognition.

“You know, I never expect anything… in my life,” he tells ABC Audio. “I just put my head down and worked. And of course the awards I have received are always unexpected and very welcome.”

Frampton was particularly amazed at the response he received to his induction, noting, “I didn't fully realize how many people out there wanted me inducted into the Hall of Fame, even more than myself did. … That blew me away.”

Frampton credits Sheryl Crow He invited him to join her on stage at her launch in 2023, suggesting that this reminds people of him.

“I think maybe even the people on the board didn't realize I wasn't there yet… which is crazy,” he said.

He also believes he has benefited from the changes behind the scenes at the Rock Hall, but still notes, “I'm just honored that they thought of me this time.”

Foreigner will also be inducted this year, and Frampton says it's extra special to him because “we share members”: Foreigner's Mick Jones played on his first solo record and Rick Wills was part of his 1973 album, Frampton's camel.

“We’re just really excited to see each other and give each other a pat on the back,” he says. “If things hadn’t changed… neither Foreigner nor I would be here this year.”

The 2024 Induction Ceremony, held at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, will stream live on Disney+ at 7:00 p.m. ET. ABC will air the special on January 1st 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonywith performance highlights.
