Predicted lineup of Tottenham Hotspur vs AZ Alkmaar: UEFA Europa League

Tottenham Hotspur hosts Dutch club AZ Alkmaar in the league phase of the UEFA Europa League at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs return to European action after a 4-1 win over West Ham United at the weekend. Club captain Son Heung-min returned to action for Tottenham after missing recent games with a hamstring injury. The 32-year-old got on the scoresheet as the hosts scored four unanswered goals from Alphonse Areola, canceling out Mohammed Kudus' early opener.

Tottenham are aiming for their third win from three games in the Europa League after previous wins against Qarabağ FK and Ferencváros. Ange Postecoglou is likely to give minutes to talented youngsters Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall, while giving Radu Drăgușin a starting spot. AZ will be the strongest team Tottenham have played in the Europa League so far and Postecoglou will have to take that into account when determining how often he rotates his team on Thursday night.

Tottenham could play against AZ in the Europa League.

TW: Guglielmo Vicario– Vicario didn't have much to do last time out after Kudus' early goal and he's hoping his defense can step up again to make his job a little easier.

RB: Archie Grey– The versatile youngster is likely to be deployed at right-back from the start, but could play at either left-back or in midfield later in the game if Spurs take care of business.

CB: Radu Drăgușin—The Romanian defender hopes to avoid a sending off like he did in his first game of the season against Qarabağ. Given Cristian Romero's inconsistent start to the season, a solid performance from the ex-Genoa player would undoubtedly help his cause to gain more minutes in the Premier League.

CB: Micky van de Ven—Postecoglou will likely play one of Micky van de Ven or Romero alongside Drăgușin as he cannot fully rotate his starting center backs. Van de Ven gets the nod as his pace is the deciding factor in Spurs' ever-present top line. e

POUND: Ben Davies– Davies starts on the left side of defense and looks to force his way into midfield to stimulate attacks.

CM: James Maddison– Maddison had to be substituted after the first half against West Ham, but it wasn’t due to injury – it was a tactical change from Postecoglou. Maddison should be fit to start in midfield as one of the team's eights alongside Bergvall.

CM: Rodrigo Bentancur—The Uruguayan played just under 10 minutes at the weekend and will be eager to get back into action with a start in the middle of the park.

CM: Lucas Bergvall– The 18-year-old is set to make his fourth start for Tottenham after sitting on the bench in the last two Premier League games.

RW: Brennan Johnson– Johnson failed to score in his last game for the first time in over a month and will look to get back on track at home to lead Spurs to victory.

ST: Dominic Solanke—While Postecoglou might be tempted to give a nod to Richarlison as he returns from injury, Solanke leads the starting lineup before Richarlison comes on as a second-half substitute.

LW: Timo Werner—Postecoglou confirmed that Son will not feature in the midweek clash, meaning Werner will get another chance to open his account for 2024-25.
