Presidents Cup Results and Live Updates: Team USA off to a fast start on Day 1 at Royal Montreal

Update

SCHEFFLER JUMPS A WEDGE NEAR THE PAR 5 SIXTH

Scheffler is pushing to extend his one-stroke lead over Henley after getting a wedge close on the par-5 6th hole against Sungjae Im and Tom Kim.

ADAM SCOTT MISSES A WEDGE ON THE PAR 3 SEVENTH HOLE

Scott is just under 6 feet away on the short par-3 7th hole, while the international team, which is one stroke ahead, has some momentum. The US pair are also on the green, but Morikawa and Theegala are 12 feet and 20 feet away respectively.

Min Woo Lee takes the lead in the international matches with a birdie

Min Woo Lee has just won the par 5 6th hole with a birdie 4 as Morikawa and Theegala then failed to chip halfway. The international duo of Lee and Scott are now one stroke ahead.

Corey Conners enjoys a lot of support

Canadian Corey Conners got off to a good start in Montreal, where he and partner Hideki Matsuyama are one point ahead of Sam Burns and Patrick Cantlay after three holes. Burns just managed to get in a birdie putt, but Matsuyama made his birdie putt from about 12 yards at halftime to keep his duo's lead.

SCHEFFLER MAKES A PAR ON THE PAR 3 FIFTH

World number one Scheffler played second fiddle to partner Russell Henley in the third match, but was able to contribute with a three-shot on the par-3 fifth hole before Sungjae Im followed him for a half-stroke. The USA lead this third match by one point.

CHIP in MAGIC FROM ON THE SEVENTH

The top match remains even, although An holes a birdie two on the seventh hole, but Finau makes a half-two with his putt.

COOL PUTTING FROM PENDRITH ON THE THIRD

Taylor Pendrith has just made a crucial par putt on the third hole at half-time, ensuring that the international team is only one point behind in the third match after Wyndham Clark was already four points ahead.

The second match also remains halved after pars on the par 3 fifth

Adam Scott followed Collin Morikawa into the hole for a par 3 on the 5th hole and the second game is also tied.

BIRDIE IN THE SIXTH FOR Byeong Hun An, WHO WAS HALF WITH Xander Schauffele

In the top match, Xander Schauffele and Ben An are still tied after birdies on the par 5 sixth.

GAME FIVE STARTS, ALL GAMES ARE NOW TAKING PLACE ON THE PITCH

Cantlay is only the second of ten Americans to miss the fairway on his first shot, but Sam Burns safely finds the short grass.

It's slowly becoming a leitmotif: Both Matsuyama and Conners miss the fairway. The USA already has an advantage.

USA takes the lead in the fourth game

Bradley sinks a 10-foot birdie putt on the 1st hole to take the lead ahead of the Internationals.

It was not a good start for the hosts.

TOM KIM IN HIS ELEMENT

Kim was arguably the star of the 2022 Presidents Cup at Quail Hollow, stealing the show as a rookie.

As expected, he was a real showman when he reached the first tee. He and his partner Im lost the opening hole.

GAME FOUR BEGINS

This is a recurring theme, with Taylor Pendrith missing the fairway from the first tee after both Americans have found the fairway.

However, his partner Bezuidenhout is safely in the short grass, albeit with a decent distance behind Keegan Bradley and Wyndham Clark.

MORE RED MARKS ON THE BOARD AS HENLEY HITS THE FIRST BIRD

After Im's birdie attempt missed the net, Presidents Cup rookie Russell Henley sank a 12-foot birdie putt on the first hole, giving himself and Scottie Scheffler an early lead.

THEEGALA MISSES CHANCE TO SWITCH INTO THE 2UP

A slippery birdie putt down the hill on the 2nd hole slides past for Theegala. He misses the 12-footer but stays next to Morikawa 1UP.

GAME THREE IN PROGRESS

On paper, it was probably the game of the day: Scottie Scheffler and Russell Henley found the fairway with their drives in their match against Tom Kim and Ben An.

Kim is the only player to miss a fairway. The early signs could be worrying for the international team, which, unlike its opponents, has already missed several fairways.

If they want to have a chance of winning the trophy, they need to hit more fairways – it's difficult to make birdies from the rough.

EARLY LEAD FOR THE USA IN THE SECOND GAME

Morikawa holes a 20-foot birdie putt for the USA on the first hole. Min Woo Lee cannot keep up from a similar distance and the guests take the lead in the second game.

Schauffele wins the second hole with birdie

After Schauffele hits a wedge to 3 feet, he wins the second hole for the USA.

He and Finau return to AS and play against Byeong Hun An and Jason Day.

GAME TWO IN PROGRESS

Sahith Theegala and Collin Morikawa face Min Woo Lee and veteran Adam Scott in the second match, and all but Scott find the fairway from the first tee.

Scott missed his drive wide and right in a similar position to Schauffele in the first match. He will have a trampled shot in the rough, but there could be trees in the way on his way to the green.

JASON DAY MAKES A LONG BIRDIE PUTT ON HIS FIRST HOT!

Jason Day takes an early walk as his 25-foot birdie putt lands on the 1st hole.

Xander Schauffele had a 12-foot putt halfway through the hole with birdies, but he missed the ball deep.

The international team sheds its first blood in Canada.

MACKENZIE HUGHES DRINKS BEERS ON THE FIRST TEA

Back on the tee, Mackenzie Hughes knelt on one knee and drank a can of Stella Artrois, much to the delight of the fans.

As you can imagine, he is not playing today…

Schauffele turns to No. 1 within 10 feet

Xander's tee shot was so inaccurate that he was able to take advantage of the trampled rough where the spectators stood. He landed 25 feet short of the hole and spun the ball back to less than 10 feet.

Finau, An and Day are also all safe on the green, with An having the best shot at a birdie from about 20 feet.

GAME ONE HAS STARTED!

After Finau's powerful drive, all three remaining players miss the fairway.

Schauffele's drive misses the fairway by a wide margin, while Jason Day runs into lush rough on the left. An finds the lighter rough to the right of the fairway and should be in a good position for his approach shot.

THE PRESIDENTS CUP HAS STARTED!

In Canada, golf balls fly in the air!

Tony Finau hits a driver down the middle of the fairway to open the match!

THE FIGHT FOR THE CUP STARTS SOON

The opening game is scheduled to begin at approximately 11:35 a.m. local time in Canada, in just under 10 minutes.

One of Tony Finau and Xander Schauffele will tee off to begin their match against Jason Day and Byeong Hun An of the Internationals.
