PS5 Slim consoles are on sale at Amazon today

Amazon's October Prime Day event is now live, offering 48 hours of discounts on video games, tech and more, but one of the event's best PlayStation deals has already been live for a few days. You can get up to $50 off the PS5 Slim today, bringing the price down to just $449 for the disc version or $399 for the digital version. The offer is now also available at Walmart, Best buy, And Goal for $449, just in case Amazon runs out of stock during Prime Day sales.

If you're waiting for the PS5 Digital Slim 30th Anniversary bundle to restock (which includes the same extras as the Pro bundle), it will be available this week at retailers like Amazon and Walmart. In fact, paying Walmart+ members will get early access to pre-orders on Thursday, October 10th at 10:00 a.m. ET / 7:00 a.m. PT. Otherwise, keep following @IGNDeals on Twitter/X for more updates.

If you compare this deal to last year's $500 Black Friday bundle, which included games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 or Marvel's Spider-Man 2, you're still getting a very good deal. At $449 – or $399 for the Digital Edition – you get similar savings while having more flexibility in choosing your game library. We've lined up plenty more great PlayStation deals for Prime Day, so be sure to check out our top deal picks.

Of course, this is assuming you don't wait for the upcoming PS5 Slim (Digital) 30th Anniversary Edition restock, due out on October 10th. Retailers like Amazon, Best Buy and Walmart can pre-order stock for $449, giving you more options if you prefer the anniversary model. Keep in mind that the PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Edition sold out almost immediately last week, showing up on eBay at inflated prices.

Sony also recently launched the stunning new “Chroma” color variants for PS5 DualSense controllers, all of which are now available to pre-order. These controllers are designed to complement the PlayStation 5 Slim and matching cover plates, but they definitely stand out on their own. Available in Pearl, Indigo and Teal, each DualSense features a pearl-like finish that changes color depending on the viewing angle.

Is it better to buy a new console on Prime Day or Black Friday?

Last year we also saw the launch of the PS5 Slim during the long Black Friday sales. As we mentioned earlier, Sony quickly made a mid-gen update with Spider-Man 2 or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. This was the most popular deal on Black Friday and a good indicator that a good console deal may be worth waiting for.

It's also worth keeping in mind that the PS5 Pro could get more spotlight on Black Friday (perhaps a new bundle offer) or lead to further price cuts for any other PS5 now that it's regularly available. For now, the answer is: trust your gut. If $50 off the PS5 Slim seems like a good deal to you, it's still a pretty rare sight and worth taking advantage of while you can.
