Ravens quarterback jumps to favorite ahead of Patrick Mahomes

There is a new leader in the clubhouse who is looking to win the NFL MVP this season.

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson put on a show Monday night against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, throwing for 281 yards and five touchdowns and adding nine carries for 52 yards in an easy win.

That performance was enough to put Jackson at the top of the NFL MVP odds, placing him ahead of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

While the Chiefs are undefeated at 6-0, Mahomes hasn't played well this season, making him a questionable candidate in the MVP market.

Jackson now has 15 passing touchdowns and just two interceptions this season, leading the Ravens to five straight wins. Therefore, he is the clear favorite to win the MVP title before Week 8.

The league's reigning MVP, Jackson, is looking for his third MVP award, and he may have his best chance yet to win one.

In addition to throwing 15 touchdown passes in seven games, the Ravens quarterback has also rushed for 455 yards and scored two scores. He led the NFL in yards per carry in Week 7, and Baltimore's offense has been one of the best in the NFL so far this season.

After an 0-2 start put Jackson off the market, the reigning league MVP rebounded to lead his team to victories over the Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills, Cincinnati Bengals, Washington Commanders and Buccaneers.

The only blemish on Jackson's MVP resume is that he lost to Mahomes in Week 1. However, Mahomes (six touchdown passes, eight interceptions) has been clearly outplayed by the Ravens quarterback since this game.

If Jackson keeps up his current pace, it's hard to imagine anyone in this market catching him — as long as the Ravens remain in the race for a top spot in the AFC.
