Record-breaking Liverpool promise to improve against Leipzig

New Liverpool coach Arne Slot promised in Wednesday's Champions League game in Leipzig to improve on his record-breaking start to life as Reds coach.

Slot's 10 wins in his first 11 games is the best start for a Liverpool manager.

The Reds sit at the top of the Premier League table and have conceded just three goals in eight games, while they have won two from two conceded in Europe.

The Dutch coach said on Tuesday his team was far from finished with the article, pointing to Sunday's 2-1 home win over Chelsea.

“When it comes to results you can't ask for much more, but when it comes to what we want there is always room for improvement.”

“I don’t think we outplayed Chelsea – we should have but didn’t. They had more possession than us. In an ideal world we would have dominated them like we have in other games.”

Asked if Liverpool's congested fixture list and expanding fixture list put more pressure on Wednesday's game, Slot replied: “I never think it's a good idea to lose games, no matter where you are in the season.”

“The schedule is tough, but what do you expect when you play in the Champions League? It’s what we like, it’s what we want, so we have to deal with it.”

Liverpool traveled to Germany missing several players including Diogo Jota, Alisson, Conor Bradley, Harvey Elliott and Federico Chiesa.

Liverpool's opponents Leipzig are second in the league on goal difference behind Bayern Munich and have conceded just two goals in seven games but have lost both Champions League games.

Slot was cautious about Leipzig, saying the results “don’t tell the whole story.”

“They had the difficulty of playing in the Champions League against two very difficult teams (Atletico Madrid and Juventus).”

Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai, who returned to his former club, praised Leipzig, saying he “came here as a young player and left as a grown man”.

Szoboszlai echoed his coach's sentiments about improvement, saying his own form “can always be better.”

“I can play better, I can score more goals, provide more assists, but now I do the dirty job for the team.”

“That’s the most important thing for me: If we’re at the top of the league and I don’t score any goals, I’ll accept it.”

Szoboszlai is yet to score in the Premier League but has a goal and an assist in two Champions League games.

Asked what Liverpool can achieve this season, the 23-year-old said: “I won't answer that question anymore.”

“We are looking forward to the season and want to achieve a lot, but let’s see what we can achieve.”
