“Red Sox legend sounds out after controversial Yankees steal call.”

Pedro Martinez knows all about playing against the New York Yankees in the postseason. The former Boston Red Sox pitcher is no stranger to watching playoff baseball in New York, and he was excited after the Yankees took a 1-0 lead against the Kansas City Royals in the American League Division Series.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. appeared to have been caught stealing with Antony Volpe at the plate during the seventh inning of Game 1, with his foot falling off the base. Instead, the replay review put Chisholm Jr. safely in second place. The Yankees stayed alive to rally as former Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo gave the go-ahead run and scored the game-winning score in the contest at Yankee Stadium.

Hours before Game 2 in the Bronx, Martinez floated his theory that the MLB favors star-studded teams like New York.

“I think they got robbed, but you know, Steve, this is New York!” Martinez told Bleacher Report's Steve Perrault on Monday. “The referees, where are they? In New York! It's the Yankees. They have to win in New York. That's how I feel. … This is such nonsense.”

The Yankees will seek a 2-0 series lead before traveling to Kansas City. First pitch at Yankee Stadium is scheduled for Monday night at 7:38 p.m. ET.
