Tom Brady was approved this week to purchase a minority stake in the Las Vegas Raiders, but he reportedly had to overcome a few obstacles before getting to that point.

ESPN's Dan Graziano reported that “in trying to buy a piece of the Raiders, he encountered resistance from NFL team owners who were concerned about the 'quality of his money,' as one source put it.”

Graziano described Brady's acquisition as minority owner of the Las Vegas franchise as “potentially a significant breakthrough for players at a time when new NFLPA Executive Director Lloyd Howell Jr. is focused on expanding opportunities for players to acquire ownership interests.” NFL teams.” However, he explained that there are still concerns from owners, who have opposed player involvement in the past.

“Basically, owners tend to view even the richest players as belonging to a different wealth class and are therefore reluctant to open the doors of their club to them,” explained Graziano. “Now that Brady has bought into a team, one wonders if that will provide players with an opportunity to seek equity ownership as part of the league’s future economic landscape.”

Brady's minority ownership interest in the Raiders came with a number of caveats, as the legendary quarterback also works as a lead analyst for Fox and his access to opposing teams required some restrictions to complete the deal:

Still, Brady expressed his excitement in a statement posted on social media, calling it “a blessing to know that I will be playing in the greatest league in the world for the rest of my life.”

“Throughout my NFL career, I have learned that football, at its core, is a game about teamwork, resilience and a relentless pursuit of excellence,” Brady added. “The Raiders franchise and the city of Las Vegas embody the same values, and I am honored to become a part of this story.”
