Saquon Barkley says Giants fans burned his jersey before returning to MetLife

Saquon Barkley didn't think he would get a “great reception” when he returned to MetLife Stadium on Sunday to play against his former team, the New York Giants. But he certainly didn't expect what awaited him when he arrived in New York with his new team, the Philadelphia Eagles.

The running back, who signed as a free agent with the Giants' NFC East rival, told Fox that he saw New York fans burning his jersey in the parking lot of MetLife Stadium before the game.

Then, when Barkley ran onto the field during the Eagles' first drive of the game, MetLife erupted in boos for their former star player. It seems like there is bad blood against Barkley among Giants fans.

However, Giants fans aren't just upset about Barkley's departure to Philly. All the offseason fans were asking why owner John Mara and general manager Joe Schoen were willing to let Barkley go. However, a clip from the free agency edition of the Giants' HBO series Hard hits suggests that they knew what the consequences would be; Mara said he would have a “hard time sleeping” watching Barkley move to a division rival.

There are a lot of emotions swirling around the star running back's return.
